The iconic Radio City Christmas Spectacular takes the stage at Radio City Music Hall every year for over 1,000,000 guests. As my first year designing for Madison Square Garden, I was tasked with designing the branding and marketing collateral to sell tickets to the Christmas Spectacular starting in March.

Here was the challenge: Most people don't want to think about Christmas before November – let alone in March! But with the iconic show drawing in a massive number of tourists, Madison Square Garden (parent company of Radio City) has to start selling tickets in the Spring. When debating what creative I was going to use for this year's marketing materials, I knew I had to do so delicately. Snow imagery was out. Photos of Santa were out. I needed to use an image that represented an iconic part of the show but also wasn't too "Christmas-y". I decided to go with an image of the iconic Falling Soldiers scene from the show. The costumes and choreography has been around since 1933 and was easily recognizable by fans. I knew people had fond memories of this dazzling, show-stopping scene, and knew that people would enjoy seeing it. With family photography for posters, warm, iconic imagery for mailers and rack cards, and a fun, interactive design for popcorn buckets, I designed these marketing materials for the 2012 Radio City Christmas Spectacular to get guests excited for Christmas in March!
